Ms. Corbetta graduated from the Milan Polytechnic with a degree in architecture and a minor in architectural and interior planning. She started her career with a Pre-Discharge House for people with spinal cord injuries (SCI); it had been her thesis, and a prototype was developed for the Abilexpo Fair in 1996.

In 1998, as part of the European FACILE program, Ms. Corbetta participated in the planning of the Pre-Discharge House for SCI users from the Eugenio Morelli Hospital in Sondalo.

From 1999 to 2004, she was a partner in the HBgroup sas.

In line with Italian Legislation, Sophie is qualified to practise the profession of architect.

Since 2002, she has become expert in the abrogation of architectural barriers under article 13, comma 3, of Regional Law no. 6/1989 for the town of Vimodrone, outside Milan.

She is especially interested and competent in the varying theoretical and methodological approaches (both European and non-European) to Universal Design, Inclusive Design, Lifespan Design, Design for All, etc.

Ms. Corbetta is actively involved in the implementation of the principles of the ICF (the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health), of OMS and of the policies of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
